I was bought up in a village in Devon on the edge of Dartmoor called Lydford. I came from family of ten I was number 8. We lived in a run down ex-hotel with eleven bedrooms and we were lucky enough to spend our childhoods running around on the moors in this quiet beautiful village. Living a pure and natural lifestyle.
My Mother cooked everything, she made jams, chutneys, cakes and wine, she even made our clothes!! I started to help cooking for the family, then when I finished school I trained as a chef, first working in hotels and then moving to London to work as a chef for a film location catering company.
I started to get health symptoms at the age of 16, with chronic urinary tract infections, muscle pains, headaches and anxiety. I worked for many years as a chef and then retrained as a Makeup Artist in the film industry, which I did until my health symptoms made it difficult to stand for long periods of time due to muscle pain, muscle weakness and fatigue.
I gave birth to my first son, Joseph, followed by Emily, Sam and Isaac. After the first two children, I stopped work and concentrated on the family. My chronic severe muscle pain, headaches, fatigue and multiple symptoms continued and the symptoms accelerated.
I visited numerous doctors and specialists, and had many scans and tests. They showed damage to my neck. I had cervical spinal oesteophytes also known as bone spurs which were causing problems with the nerves in the neck creating pain and numbness in my head and down the right side of the body. Every part of me was so painful. My hands and knuckles swelled up so much I had to take all my rings off. I had to resort to using a neck collar and bringing a walking stick seat to occasions where I thought I may need to stand for a while. They suggested I had arthritis but did not acknowledge the numerous other symptoms I had. All of their treatments failed to work. At 42 I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and rheumatoid arthritis. I was prescribed pharmaceutical medications over the following months. Unhappy with the lack of progress and suffering from the chronic side effects of the medication I decided I would find my own way to heal myself.
It has been a long journey as I researched it all myself and I was my own experiment. I am now in the lucky position of having good health. I no longer have any of the symptoms from chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia and arthritis. My gut has healed, I no longer have bone spurs and I am pain free, much to the confusion of my doctors. My long journey and training has allowed me to gain an extensive knowledge of naturopathy and nutrition.
After I recovered from these illnesses I decided I would like to help other people suffering from poor health. I retrained at the London College of Naturopathic Medicine and completed an advanced diploma ( equal to an honours degree), then went on to do a foundation in Kinesiology, where I now specialise in nutrition response testing .
